THE BEST EMERGING ARTISTS IN 10 SCENES

Every magazine and website has its own "Year End Best" list, but no other publication has Year End Polls like The Deli's ones,  focused on emerging artists in the 10 US scenes covered by our publication, and involving a competent jury comprised of local music industry pros who deal with up and coming bands on a daily basis, including:

- venue booking agents,
- music bloggers,
- music journalists
- radio personnel
- record store staff etc.

THE POLLS' GOAL

The goal of the poll is to involve local scenemakers (the jury), local music fans (the readers) and Deli writers in choosing the best emerging artists of 2010 of the various scenes covered by The Deli.

At the end of the process there will be 2 charts: the more rigorous one (including votes from Jury, Deli Writers and Readers) elects the local scene's Best Emerging Artists of The Year. The other one (including only the readers' votes) elects The Deli's Readers Best emerging local Artists of the Year. There will be prizes for both winners, and likely also for some of the runner-ups.

ELIGIBILITY

Only emerging, original local bands who aren't or weren't signed to a major label can compete. No Jazz artists, no cover bands.
The two other requisites are:
1. The artist must have recordings of their original music available online.
2. The artist must have performed live at least once in 2010.

STAGE 1: NOMINATIONS

Most bands that will end up in our "Year End Best of List" will be chosen by our jurors. However, while we wait for the jurors to reply to our vote request, we'll have a contest open to all local bands. The bands interested in participating will be simply asked to submit through a form that will also subscribe them to The Deli and add them to our charts. The Deli's writers will chose 3-5 artists from this pool of artists.

- Jury Nominated (and Voted) Artists
Jurors nominate and vote for their favorite bands at once, casting a vote for 3 bands each: they'll assign 3 points to the 1st (best band), 2 points to the 2nd band, 1 point to the 3rd.

- Writer Nominated Artists
The Deli's writers will pick 3 bands from the ones that will submit to the open contest. The band with more votes will get 1 point (1.5 in NYC), the 2nd one 0.75 (1 in NYC), the 3rd one 0.5 (0.75 in NYC). This open poll will end before the end of the year (precise dates will be decided soon).

STAGE 2a: WRITERS' OVERALL VOTES

The Deli's r writers will have one extra vote each that can only be assigned to one of the artists that were already nominated. Each Deli writer's vote counts 1 point.

STAGE 2b: READERS' VOTES

In early January, after all the votes from the jurors are in, all the nominees will undergo a popular vote, which will last for about 10 days. For this poll we will use our usual monthly poll system. The artist/band that gets the most votes from the readers' poll will get 3 points, then 2 for second place, and 1 for third place. From the 4th place on, single readers' votes will also be counted as 0.001 points (which means that 1,000 readers' votes equals 1 point, and, for example, 87 readers' votes equals 0.087 points).

*** Because of the high number of nominees, NYC's readers votes will be rewarded slightly differently:***

1st place: 3 points
2nd place: 2 points
3rd place: 1.5 points
4th place: 1 point
5th place: 0.5 points
6th place on: 0.001 points per reader's vote

***STAGES 2a and 2b happen at the same time***

STAGE 3: VOTE COUNTING

At the end of the voting process, the number of votes from the readers and the ones from the writers will be added to the votes from the Jury and the two charts will be compiled.
