New Track: "It's Too Late" (Carole King Cover) - Sad13

With her take of the Carole King's soulful staple “It’s Too Late,” Sad13, a.k.a. Sadie Dupuis (of Speedy Ortiz), kicks off GRLMIC: VOL 1, a benefit compilation of covers, whose proceeds will go to Planned Parenthood and Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls. Speckled in synth, shreds of guitar, and cosmic, electronic beats, the song takes a journey outward. Coated in a gritty sweetness, this version resonates with the original, while feeling like a spaceship transmission. Give it and the entire compilation a spin, and support a couple of excellent organizations in the process. (Photo by Chad Kamenshine)

Savants celebrate 7" release party tomorrow at Cape House

Brooklyn's Savants is the living proof that it is possible to play a slacking variety of rock'n'roll without sounding like Pavement or Dinosaur Jr. - hurrah! We are particularly fond of the quartet's recent single 'Sneak E. Gardner' (streaming below), part of a split 7" with Californian label mates Tomorrow Tulips. The track's minimalist approach and rustic production conjure up an atmonsphere that's at once intense and playful, but always extremely musical. Savant will be celebrating the release of a new 7" tomorrow (April 26th) at Cape House, with other deserving locals Sam Kogon and Toyzanne, and Philadelphia's Needle  Points

New On the Water EP Available for Streaming & Purchase

The clouds continue to perspire, but don’t let it bring you down. Rather, soak in Superposition, the latest release from chamber-folk troubadours On The Water. The EP takes on an adventurous, instrumentally-quilted mythos with a gutturally earnest grip, toeing the threshold between ragged-precision. Currently in the midst of a tour, the band heads straight into labyrinths of musical depths, inviting one to explore beside them.

New Laser Background LP Available for Streaming

Always up for testing musical boundaries, Laser Background's Andy Moholt fearlessly journeys from birth to death while taking a deep look within for his new album Dark Nuclear Bogs. The ten-song LP just might prove to be his most cohesive and enjoyable release to date under the moniker. Dark Nuclear Bogs officially drops on April 28, and will be available via Mutual Crush/Endless Daze, but you can now stream it over at Stereogum. The band will also begin its extensive tour of the U.S. and Canada this evening, which will be making a stop home this Saturday, April 29 at Baird Mansion Atrium for the group's album release celebration with Norwegian Arms and Breathers.
