There is not enough room on our humble blog to rave about each of the amazing acts playing at Portland State University on Saturday. At the risk of sounding like Stefon from SNL, it has EVERYTHING. The lineup is a delightful sampler of some of Portland’s best acts in a variety of genres, put together by our buddies at Banana Stand Media.

DJ Anjali and the Incredible Kid offer a Bollywood/world beat DJ set that will get everyone dancing--they’ll probably even teach you some new steps.

TxE (the “x” means “and,” DAD!) put together some of the hottest hip-hop in town, hands-down. Check out their rad album Vs. Portland where they sample a bunch of killer local indie acts.

Hustle & Drone, who last week relased a new track and Instagram-style video featuring raps by Portland Trailblazer Damian Lillard (unbeknownst to him), will bring their ridiculous energy and giant synth pop to the stage as well as some pretty rad lights that make you feel like you’ve just smoked a rainbow.

Top it all off with the enfatuatingly hazy love-pop/rock of dream babes Radiation City, and it’s bound to be one of the best shows you’ll see all year.

So skip a trip to the pub and invest in local music. Or if you go to PSU it’s free, and you’re all definitely studying and not drinking, anyways. Saturday, October 18, from 7pm-11pm in the Smith Memorial Student Union Ballroom, room 355, 1825 SW Broadway Ave. The show is free for PSU students, $10 advance for the general public, or $15 at the door. When it comes to PDX rap group TxE, I would hesitate to classify their tunes as rap due to its clear influence from old school hip hop. Samples from Biggie are no surprise in their music because it is focused on poignant lyrics with solid delivery. The grooves are mellow with traces of soul and are mixed together to uplift the beat into a danceable track. Most people do not correlate hip hop with Portland, but TxE (consisting of members Calvin, Epp, and Tope) can hold their own with some of the best in the country. By sharing stages with the likes of Lil Wayne and Macklemore they have proven that good verses can travel far and wide, especially if you know how to throw them down. TxE are taking part in MFNW at the Hawthorne Theater for a rappers showcase tonight. - Colin Hudson

March Madness just ended and all of you bracketologists out there are probably pretty sad you'll have to until next year to get your bracketology on, but don't fret! Back for a second year by popular demand, in a move that is sure to establish itself as a Portland institution - it's Rigsketball! If you're late to the game, Rigsketball is halfcourt, 3v3 basketball played on a regulation hoop attached to the back of a van, just about anywhere the cops won't bust the party. However, when played in a bracket-style tournament with 32 of Portland's most ballin' bands and a couple of well-coordinated city permits in the 2012 calendar year: it becomes Rigsketball 2k12! - a summer tradition monstrosity that threatens the safety of every man, woman and child in a 50-foot radius, all the while promoting physical exercise, good attitudes and teamwork! Not to mention connecting 32 seemingly disparate bands and their fans in friendly opposition while providing all parties involved the chance to see each group do something new and exciting outside the studio or venue. If you like sweat, beer, bands, jams, vans, basketball and the possibility of some extremely minor bloodshed - then you'll love Rigsketball 2k12!

Last year's bracket was constituted by Typhoon, Starfucker, And And And, Radiation City, Rock n Roll Soldiers, Jared Mees and the Grown Children, Archers, Aan, SKELETRON, Sean Flinn and the Royal We, TxE, Laura Gibson, Support Force, Animal Eyes, Charts, The Woolen Men, The Blast Majesty, Dirty Mittens, Monarques, My Autumn’s Done Come, Youthbitch, Rocky & The Proms, SUPER MONSTER, The No Tomorrow Boys, Surfs Drugs, Hello Electric, Rabid Wombat, Lee Cory Oswald, Otis Heat, Ugly Flowers, Mannequinhead, and The Taxi Boys. 

Rigsketball 2k12 registration will open April 15th (filing taxes optional.) The first 32 eligible bands to register will be a part of this year's tournament and it is sure to fill up quickly after last year's buzz. Actual competition begins July 26th and goes through August 9th. If you're in a band, be sure to save the registration date. If you're an adoring fan, be sure to donate.
