This July marks Burger Boogaloo’s 10th year anniversary show and the Boogaloo folks are really busting out a sweet, sweet lineup. As tradition insisted,  the festival is hosted by purity king John Waters and will feature some solid favorites from the homefront and beyond. A small snippet from the two-day bill includes Jesus and Mary Chain, Shannon the Clams, The Scientists, No Bunny, King Tuff and those Australian sweets, The Chats. Like their name implies, Big Huge's sound is explosive from the get-go. On their latest EP Orama, the NYC garage rock band has a strong, early-60's rockabilly sensibility,  all the blaring fuzz and bare-knuckle dirt of early 70's rock, and yet still delivers fresh sounding hooks destined for earworm status. The band is fun, upbeat, and the perfect companion to a late-night highway drive with the windows down. Oakland based surf rock royalty, Shannon and the Clams released a new single this morning! The new song is entitled, It's Too Late and while the track doesn't stray far away from Shannon and the Clams' signiture lofi-esque, surf pop sound, this new single is exciting and refreshing to listen to. The band is gearing up to release a new full length album called Gone by the Dawn on September 11th, so make sure you don't miss their upcoming show on September 9th at Great American Music Hall in San Francisco with Silver Shadows to celebrate the release of the new album!

Shannon and the Clams will be sharing a bill with Mane and Marriage + Cancer at the Knockout in San Francisco. Opening the show is Mane, an all-girl band from San Francisco. Drawing from '80s goth and post-punk, they have cornered the market for music that is "garnet meets violet meets meatlocker."

Marriage + Cancer is a band based out of Portland, Oregon. Playing a brand of music called "pissed pop" with reverb-filled vocals and almost surf rock guitar licks, the band is not be missed as they make rounds all the way from the Northwest. Throughout their career spanning multiple albums, Shannon and the Clams have demonstrated their love for all things '60s. Whether they be under the influence of '60s pop, surf rock, or R&B one thing is for sure - they put on a hell of a show. -Erin Dage

In celebration of Halloween, local garage punk rock bands will be taking over The Stork Club in Oakland as band counterparts. NOBUNNY, best known for his iconic bunny mask that is worn during performances, just released their album “Secret Songs: Reflections from the Ear Mirror” earlier this month and will be taking on the music of 60s rock and roll R&B artist, Bo Diddley. Shannon and The Clams, Oakland based woman fronted garage rock band, will be taking on the songs of 60s Peruvian garage rock band, Los Saicos. The Monster Women, an all-female 80’s/punk fused band based out of Eureka, CA, will be playing as memorable rock group, The Go-Go’s. Yogurt Brain, a lo-fi punk band based out of Oakland, will be playing as the iconic alternative rock band, Weezer.

The line-up for this show is going to be loud and fast in itself, but with the new identities each band will be taking, this show is one for the year. Be sure to celebrate your Halloween the right way – with some great local music! -Victor Casillas Valle
