Deli: How did the band start?
Jon Weiss: The Sea Life started in high school five years ago.

Where did the band name come from?
We had another band name previously, but it was already taken by some heavy metal band, so The Sea Life was something we put together and it eventually stuck.

What are your biggest musical influences?
Any type of music from 70's soul to 90's hip hop and shoegaze to modern day indie rock and folk

What artists are you currently listening to?
Built to Spill, Beach House, Bombay Bicycle Club, The Shaky Hands

What's the first concert that you ever attended and first album that you ever bought?
My first concert was about 6 years ago when I was a freshman in highschool to see The Cribs, with then lesser known Ra Ra Riot opening. I think the first album I ever bought was something by Blink 182, I don't really remember, I was a little guy.

What do you love about DC's music scene?
When it rains, it pours.

What would you like to see change in the local music scene?
More support for local shows. There are a lot of talented bands that don't get the chance to play, and when they do, poor publicity can result in a small turnout.

What are your plans for the upcoming year?
We plan on releasing an album either before or during September, where listeners will be able to choose how much they want to pay for a download. This will be our first full length album, and we have already put months of time into the song writing process. We hope to soon tour with this album, shortly after I finish up college this coming spring.

What was your most memorable live show?
We played a house show in College Park, Maryland where everyone was shouting our harmonies and lyrics back to us as we played our set, and it was one of the most homefelt and incredible experiences any of us have had. We also got to open for Oberhofer at the Black Cat last month, which was a pretty fun time.

Is there someone who has helped your band grow through support?
Maybe Homero Salazar of the Washington DC band Go Cozy. But really, All of our friends and families who have ever shown us support through their actions or words. Any one of our fans has helped us grow.

Is there a piece of equipment you couldn't live without and why?
Our drummer, Patrick. Come to one of our show's and you'll see why. We're headlining the Black Cat August 6th.
